So on Friday evening I had the pleasure of going to watch the movie-documentary Michael Jackson – This is it. A lot of reviews were positive on it and on Flixster it has a overall rating of over 87%. From a few friends that saw it already it was worth the price of admission so when my cousin texted me asking me to go I was all for it. So first off I am no Michael Jackson fanatic by any means. I enjoyed his music and thought he was a great entertainer. He is definitely in my memories from when I was a kid and I have a ton of his music. But I am not biased towards him and would be one of the first person to criticize some of his decisions or actions he’s made in his life. So I came into the movie with no expectations and not even knowing if it was going to lean towards a movie, biography, concert or documentary. Continue reading →
So today is All Hallow’s Eve also known as Halloween or the Devil’s night as well. So call me a party pooper but what is up with this “holiday”. There was once a time that I was one of the kid’s going out to trick or treat and get me some goodies. But then I grew up and realized that this day was just some reason for retail to make more money. Also the fact that I don’t really care for a abundance of candy has a big part of it as well. But seriously what is this day about? Honestly, from a male, this day is about being able to see girls play out their ambitions and dress in clothing they could not pull off any other time of the year, besides the bedroom. With this fact I love Halloween. But also with that, why can’t every weekend just be Halloween weekend?
I can see the appeal for the kids, to be able to dress up and go around and get free food. I think that just to much time and effort gets put into this day when we have so much other stuff that can be celebrated nationally. I know in California if you work for the State you get a bazillion day’s off but seriously, there are plenty of other important dates in our country’s history that are more important then this day. I mean if we are going to keep doing this, why not make it in the summer time where there is less school, less holidays and its a lot warmer for folks to go out and enjoy themselves. So like much of the world I have been watching baseball a lot because of the playoffs. I love baseball as it is but come playoff time its even more exciting to watch, even if the A’s or Giant’s are not in it. So now we are down to the World Series (Go Phillies btw) and there have been a good amount of close plays in two games that already have been blown calls. So this leads to the discussion of whether or not baseball should follow other sports and somehow implement video review into the game for calls. I am a huge advocate for this to happen. Yes baseball has been played without it for over a 100 years. But just like everything else today, things are coming down to inches and seconds. And this is happening with the speed of the game becoming so much more quicker then it was once played out.
I also know that there is a lot of complaints from people that the sport moves to slowly to watch on television and that’s what takes the casual person from viewing. Baseball has tried many things over the years to help speed up the game but I am not sure how you can make it quicker. And yes, the introduction of more video review will add more to the time. But then how much will it actually add. Especially when it is used in conjunction with the broadcasting and video crews. Also I think it will help when people see it work properly to make things right. Continue reading →
