121009 How to cause me to get me clinically depressed…

So like most people in the world I have a Apple iPhone. But this has nothing to do how much I love/hate the phone. It has a lot to do with how much technology controls us and specifically me. And actually this would have happened with my previous phone as well. When I went to Colorado I purchased some gloves at a random gas station, I think Grand Junction. Randomly I had my gloves on and went to check my phone. To my horror I realized my phone would not work without my actual skin touching it. I thought of the horror. Stuck in the Colorado stranded, 2 flat tires, oil pan broken, exhaust falling off, spark plugs exploded. I had to call AAA, but I couldn’t. Not because AT&T has a crappier 3G map then Verizon, but because my gloves would not allow it. Yes I know the solution is to take off the gloves but a Californian in Colorado is a cold cold man.

So the other night it snowed in and around Sacramento. I was up in Folsom for Larry’s Candlight Memorial and at a friend’s house. We realized it was snowing and I knew it was time for me to go. Snow + lowered vehicle = disaster. It was tough enough driving with standing water and rain, but combine that with snow, frost and ice. That is a recipe for a bad meal. So I slowly made my way home and realized the weather for the next few days were going to be quite cold. So I saw my gear from Colorado and smiled. Nice toasty wool socks, extra beanies and scarves as well as my gloves with a small hole in them. As I put them on and sat in front of my laptop and smiled to myself knowing I would be warm. I was put into shock again. My arrow on my computer screen would not respond to me. Not left, right, up, I couldn’t highlight. The horror of it all, how did this happen. Then I realized once again the gloves were on and the touchpad could not register my fingers. Sigh.

So I realized that if something happened to me or specifically my fingerprints were burned off I would essentially be screwed. Phone would not work, laptop would not work. My life would spiral down a scary path of no communication and sadness. A dark cloud would follow me around saying “this guy can’t use technology”. Nelson of the Simpson’s would haunt my dreams saying “ha-ha” over and over again taunting me and my nubs for fingers. The horror of it all is scary. I probably couldn’t deal out cards as well. So if anytime you really wanted to get back at someone when they are sleeping put some of those fake finger overlay things on their fingers and see them freak out. I know I sure would. So less playing with fire for me.

120909 Television is not as crappy as I thought…

So since my time away from work I have a little more time on my hand. So during the daytime, well pretty much all times of the day, I am able to watch television. Before I had some of my specific programs I would watch. They consisted of Entourage, Top Chef, ABDC, Rob Dydrek and pretty much all of Food Network. Throw in ESPN’s Sportscenter and sports and that equated to my DVR recordings. So nowadays I realize that there is so much more on that I have been missing. I got a little overwhelmed with all the reality TV shows and like most guys had to watch shows like Laguna Beach or One Tree Hill. So I was honestly scared of what TV had to offer.

But I realized the error of my ways recently. I was always told by close friends to watch shows like 24, Law and Order or CSI. My dad would talk about shows that he had to see and my sister had her “shows” that her and the general female population watched. But I am opening my horizon’s and watching more shows. It’s weird how many shows are are in rerun’s during the daytime. But I have been able to watch but not really catch up to some of these shows ; Law and Order, Las Vegas, Without a Trace. Also watching Weeds on Season 2 now. I have to get Always Sunny in Philadelphia next. So I realized yes there is plenty of crap in the TV world like Flavor of Love and Tila’s show but there is plenty of good stuff out there. What are some of your good show recommendations out there? If you want I would be open to free dvd’s in the mail and what not to by the way.

120809 Sad but cool website…

Daily I think each of us read and visit sites that are on a daily routine. A lot of times it’s stuff like Facebook or Yahoo. Sometimes you get linked to a site that is new and different and something you bookmark for the future. This site may not be one that you go back to on a daily basis but it will help you appreciate life a little more every so often. Give it a look. It’s mostly a photographic version on a man’s journal of the end of his father’s life. You can click on the picture or this link
