So I am sitting here at the coffee shop and thinking and reading and typing. I have had this conversation with others in person but I figure I would write about it especially since my blogging has lacked I figure I could jot down some thoughts. The second week of February of 2010 is going to be crazy. Yes the Super Bowl is the week before but that does not matter. There are so many events happening on that same weekend it is almost ridiculous.
First off for the world it is the first weekend of the Winter Olympics. I mean wow, you almost expect most things to stop because of the event. The hockey season goes into hiatus for a few weeks and their teams go over a month without a home game, now that is crazy. Another huge whole weekend event is the NBA All-Star game. That weekend on Saturday they have their events like the Rookie-Sophomore game, Slam Dunk Contest, 3pt contest etc. But on Sunday is the actual game in Dallas, in their new HUGE stadium. I mean seriously its in the biggest stadium with the biggest stadium screen in existence. If tickets in and out and living wouldn’t have been so expensive I think I would have gone and checked it out this year.
If you are in some cities like Sacramento the second Saturday of the month is a huge Art Day as well. Here we have the Downtown district open late with art exhibits open and vendors and so much going on. The streets are filled with people of all variety from the old and young, hippie and emo, lovebirds to arch-rivals. Its a great time to hang out and see some art and people watch. Its a little colder now but that doesn’t usually stop people from going out and having a great time.
That same weekend for the Asian community is also Chinese New Years and its celebration. Plenty of gambling, red envelopes and food will be had on that weekend. With the festivities hitting a high point on Sunday the 14th. It’s a crazy time with every culture and family celebrating in a different fashion. But you can see some money being exchanged and gambled away, temples visited, and just a jolly good time being held for the celebration of this upcoming Year of the Tiger. But then of course on the 14th is the day for the couples, Valentine’s day. A holiday that has been hyped and created for additional revenue more so then anything. It’s a day to show the person(s) you love how much you care. Because you know, this one day is the only day you should, just kidding of course.
With all of this going on I wonder where the compromise is. Do you give up your Valentine’s Day to go to All-Star game. Or do you spend it with your family for Chinese New Years and watch the Olympics on the tube. Or do you stay in and not worry about any of it to spend your whole day in bed with the one you love doing the stuff you do, ohhh you know what I mean. regardless of what you do, if you can’t do one then there are plenty of other options for you on that second week of February. What do I plan on doing you ask. Well I have no clue haha. But that’s just how I roll…..
